Born September 14, 1940, Brown is the only coach in basketball history to win both an NCAA national championship (Kansas Jayhawks, 1988) and an NBA title (Detroit Pistons, 2004). His overall professional coaching record (combining NBA & ABA) is 1,275-965. Brown is the only coach in NBA history to lead eight different teams to the playoffs. As a player, Brown won an ABA championship (Oakland Oaks, 1968–69) and an Olympic Gold Medal (Tokyo, 1964). The USA team went 9-0 with only one game decided by under 10 points. He was head coach of the USA Olympic Men’s basketball team in Athens in 2004 and an assistant coach in the previous Olympics in 2000 in Sydney. Additionally, Brown led the USA team to a gold medal as part of the USA delegation at the 6th World Maccabiah Games in Israel in 1961. He was a 7th round pick (55th overall) by the Baltimore Bullets in the 1963 NBA Draft. Besides Kansas, Brown was head coach at both UCLA and SMU. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Brown played collegiately at the University of North Carolina for legendary coaches Frank McGuire and Dean Smith.

Brown’s accolades include enshrinement in: The International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in (1990); The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (2002); The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame (2006); Legend of the Maccabiah (2012); The Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (2013).
