History of Wilkes-Barre and the Wyoming Valley is a five part series covering 300 years of local history. Part one covers our Native American heritage and pioneer settlements. Part two will explore the beginnings of the coal industry and the Civil War. Part three will cover the industrial revolution and its local impact. Part four dives into the changing character of our region from coal strikes to World War II and part five discusses post-war challenges and the Agnes Flood.

Tony Brooks, Director of WBPS
Tony Brooks is the executive director of the Wilkes-Barre Preservation Society and curator of the 1793 Zebulon Butler House Museum, the oldest house in Wilkes-Barre. Brooks has been a leader in historic preservation and teaching local history for the last 22 years. He is a recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Founders Award for Patriotism for his efforts to promote history and historic preservation.
