The mission of the Friedman Jewish Community Center is to provide
programs and services which foster the well-being of our local community
and Jews at home, in Israel and around the world through continuous
learning, charitable works, social and educational and recreational
services. ‘Community’ is our middle name, and we are open to everyone.
Sara’s Table serves needy families and individuals requiring food, and/or
specialized kosher food. We work to reduce hunger and promote proper
nutrition to families. We respond to basic material needs of children,
adults, and seniors in need.
People hear about our agency through churches, Rabbis, counseling
services, or other social service agencies. We help needy and homeless
families. We are unique in also helping the Jewish poor, unemployed,
retired and mentally ill. We work with the Rabbis to coordinate lists and
needs. We are considered an emergency center. CEO provides
information that we make available to our clients so they can prepare
healthy meals for themselves. We try to provide healthy choices for the
families, along with the food that they can use to provide healthier meals for
themselves and their families. We refer our clients to other agencies if they
have specific needs in addition to food. We have a working relationship
with other agencies who provide emergency food and counseling.
With increased unemployment and reduced food stamps the increased
need for food is evident by the long lines that form each Friday morning.
Clients when they return to Sara’s Pantry note the positive impact we have
on their lives.
Our volunteers greet all with a smile and ask “how we can help” with
special needs and diets restrictions.
Sara’s Table seeks volunteers to help with food distribution. to assist with
greeting patrons, filing monthly paperwork, filling grocery bags, moving
stock, and helping patrons.
Those in need and those who are interested in
volunteering can contact Barbara Sugarman at 570-824-4646.
